Signs Your Chimney Needs Repair
Most of these are visible from the ground or from inside the house. If you recognise one, it is worth a look.
White Staining On The Brick
Efflorescence — salt left behind as water moves through the masonry. The brick is absorbing water it should be shedding.
Brick Or Mortar On The Roof
Spalling. Water gets into the brick, freezes, expands and pushes the face off. Once it starts it keeps going.
A Cracked Or Crumbling Crown
The concrete slab on top is the chimney’s roof. Once it cracks, water runs straight down inside the structure.
Gaps In The Mortar Joints
Mortar wears out before brick. Open joints let water in behind the face of the chimney.
Damp Patches Near The Chimney
Water is getting in somewhere above — usually the crown, the cap or the flashing.
Rust On The Damper Or Firebox
Something is letting moisture into the flue. Rust is often the first visible sign.
Tiles Or Debris In The Firebox
The liner may be breaking up. A damaged liner is a safety issue, not a cosmetic one.
A Leaning Chimney
Or a gap between chimney and house. That is structural — stop using the fireplace and call.
Not sure which one you’re seeing? That is what the free inspection is for. Book it here or call (416) 505-6228.

Questions About Chimney Repair
Anything else — call (416) 505-6228.
How do I know if my chimney needs repair?
Debris in the firebox, cracked or flaking brick, white staining, rust, or smoke where it shouldn’t be. The free inspection confirms what is actually going on before you spend anything.
How much does chimney repair cost?
It depends entirely on the damage, so we don’t give blind numbers online. The inspection is free and you approve the exact price, at your home, before any work begins.
Is chimney damage urgent?
Sometimes. Water and freeze-thaw make small cracks grow, so early repair is usually far cheaper. We’ll tell you honestly what is urgent and what can wait.
Can you match my existing brick and mortar?
Yes — as closely as possible, especially on older Toronto homes. Matching is part of the job, not an extra.
Do you repair fireboxes and dampers?
Yes — firebox mortar joints and panels, and dampers that are stuck, rusted or missing.
