Chimney Masonry & Tuckpointing In Toronto
Toronto freeze-thaw is hard on brick. We repoint worn joints, replace damaged brick, repair crowns and rebuild above the roofline when it comes to that — matched as closely as possible to your home’s original brick.
- Joints cut out and repointed — not smeared over
- Brick matched — as closely as possible
- From one joint — to a rebuild above the roofline

Signs Your Chimney Masonry Needs Work
Brick and mortar tell you when water is getting in.
Gaps In The Mortar Joints
Mortar wears out first, by design. Open joints let water in behind the brick.
Brick Faces Flaking Off
Spalling — frost pushing the face off the brick. It keeps going once it starts.
White Staining
Salt left behind as water moves through the masonry.
A Cracked Crown
The slab on top is the chimney’s roof. Cracks send water straight down inside.
Loose Bricks Near The Top
Above the roofline the weather is hardest, so that is where it shows first.
Not sure which one you’re seeing? That is what the free inspection is for. Book it here or call (416) 505-6228.

From A Joint To A Rebuild
Chimney masonry is not one job. These are the four scopes we work in, smallest to largest — the free inspection tells you which one your chimney is in.
Tuckpointing / Repointing
The joints are worn or open but the brick is sound. We cut the old mortar out to a proper depth and repoint it, matching the colour and joint profile.
The most common masonry job, and the one that prevents the expensive ones.
Crown Repair Or Replacement
When the crown cracks, water runs straight down inside the chimney. Small cracks can be sealed; a broken crown is cut out and recast with a proper overhang and drip edge.
Fixing a crown early is the cheapest way to avoid a rebuild.
Brick Replacement
Where frost has pushed the face off individual bricks, those bricks come out and matching ones go in. The rest of the chimney stays where it is.
Worth doing while the damage is counted in bricks, not in courses.
Partial Or Full Rebuild
When enough of the structure has gone — usually above the roofline — we take it down to sound masonry and rebuild. Same brick where we can match it, new crown, new cap.
The point of the other three jobs is to never need this one.
How We Repair Chimney Masonry
Every visit starts with protecting your home and ends with photos and a clean work area.
Cut Back
Failed joints ground out to sound depth; loose or spalled bricks removed.
Replace
Matching brick set where needed.
Repoint
Joints packed and struck to match the original profile — not smeared over the face.
Protect
Crown checked and, where it makes sense, breathable masonry waterproofing applied.

Questions About Masonry & Tuckpointing
Anything else — call (416) 505-6228.
What is tuckpointing?
Cutting back failing mortar joints and refilling them properly — struck to match the original profile, not smeared over the brick face.
Can you match the brick on an older home?
Matching is the craft. We source and blend as closely as possible so the repair blends into the original work.
When is a rebuild needed instead of repair?
When brick and joints have deteriorated past the point of repointing — usually above the roofline. The free inspection tells you honestly which side of that line you’re on.
What season is best for masonry work?
Mortar needs workable temperatures, so most masonry runs spring through fall. Book early — the season fills up.
How much does masonry repair cost?
It depends on the scope — a few joints or a rebuild — so we price it after the free inspection, at your home, before any work starts.
